South Surrey

South Surrey is a growing neighborhood in Surrey, British Columbia. It borders on the city of White Rock, and has the largest concentration of people over the age of 60 of all Surrey's town centres. South Surrey comprises all of the Semiahmoo peninsula (other than the small wedge of White Rock), and lies between Mud Bay to the northwest and Semiahmoo Bay to the south.

The historic resort community of Crescent Beach is one of South Surrey's most popular attractions. Just up the road, the Historic Stewart Farm located in Elgin Heritage Park, provides a glimpse of Surrey's farming history. Nearby, the Semiahmoo Trail offers recreational opportunities along one of Surrey's earliest trails. Treasured natural features in South Surrey include Serpentine Fen Nature Reserve, Sunnyside Urban Forest and Redwood Park.

Recent development in the Grandview Heights neighbourhood of South Surrey has created new shopping opportunities in close proximity to new residential neighbourhoods. South Surrey also offers convenient connections to the United States through the Peace Arch and Pacific Highway border crossings.

For a popular walking trail consider the Serpentine Fen. The Serpentine Wildlife Area (SWA) contains 71.3 hectares (176 acres) of habitat important to wildlife. The extensive freshwater marshes, and the small tidal brackish water marsh are important to wildlife populations, including birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish and insects. The wildlife and habitats of SWA can be experienced via the many kilometres of trails, some with dense hedgerows. There are three covered viewing towers and a covered picnic shelter is located off 44th Avenue.

South Surrey Transportation

South Surrey has several exits off Highway 99, the main route from the US Peach Arch border crossing directly to Vancouver. Translink has a regular bus routes linking Surrey to other communities like Langley, Delta, New Westminster, and Richmond, including a fast commute to Bridgeport Station where a transfer to the Canada Line skytrain will get you to the Airport in under 5 minutes, or to downtown Vancouver in under 20 minutes. Johnson road (152nd Street), and the King George Blvd and two main routes running from Surrey City Centre all the way down to White Rock.
